3D modeling empowered with Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer in the future. It’s the present

We’ve all heard how AI is taking over the future of different industries and 3D modeling is not an exception. Nowadays, AI is revolutionizing the design process from start to finish, and so companies are starting to adapt it even more. It allows to simplify, fasten or even replace particular parts of the 3D modeling work.

At Sayduck we always go hand in hand with the latest technologies in the industry and even taking one step ahead before something goes mainstream. The same goes with AI – we do extensive research to use the newest tools and methodologies and partner with the companies who are specialising in this area. We believe that in order to provide the best experience and the highest quality of 3D modeling for our customers, we need to partner with the best professionals. That is why we are currently working with a company that uses patent-pending technology that leverages Artificial Intelligence to automate the process of building 3D visualisations of products and their placement into relevant contexts. What is more, we are always looking for companies to partner with us in order to be able to provide a better and faster 3D modeling solution.

So what are the true benefits of AI in the 3D modeling industry?

• It reduces the time for the 3D modeling process. • With the help of AI, a bigger number of 3D models can be produced during the same period of time. • The need for manual work to produce the simplest 3D model is reduced to a minimum. Quality assurance, however, remains to be part of the manual process. • AI replaces manual 3D artist tasks with automated steps such as searching and matching necessary textures for the 3D model.

Can AI fully replace 3D modeling?

One of our biggest priorities has always been to ensure the highest quality of 3D models. Why is quality so important? For us, quality lies in the details. The perfect reflection, light, shadows, and optimized polygon count have to blend together to make the product look as realistic as possible. Even though Artificial Intelligence helps to fasten the 3D model production, it is not yet capable of replacing the human eye. As it is capable of producing simple 3D models, the complex ones still have to be made by the 3D artist. For this case, we still have a professional in-house 3D modeling team that takes exceptional attention to every inch and builds 3D models so it would look like an identical replica. What is more, our production team manages the quality assurance for each of the 3D models and communicates with a client for revisions and improvements if needed.

In the example below, you can find a comparison of the same 3D model made purely with AI and the other one improved by our 3D artist. The most visible difference is the quality of textures and shadows, both of which create a more realistic 3D model.

What we are currently able to achieve with AI:

• Optimize delivery time and pricing of 3D models.

• Provide the best 3D model texture suggestions.

• Scale 3D modeling services even faster for prominent brands.

• Partially or even completely automate the 3D modeling process, thus considerably lowering the production cost.

• Automate quoting and estimation process.

What products can be created with Artificial Intelligence in 3D?

Well, basically there is no limit and any type of product can be transformed into a 3D model. However, the complexity of the product plays a very important role. Organic surfaces such as glass, wood, and curvy shapes are difficult to model. AI technology is still in a very early stage to achieve the desired result when it comes to high-end complex product modeling.

In the example below, you can see a gaming chair from our recent project with Micro-Star International (MSI) which is too complex to be made with AI and currently was modeled by our in-house 3D artists’ team.

So, what’s next?

Artificial Intelligence might be able to simulate the entire lifecycle of a 3D modeling process. And it doesn’t stop there. Improvements are being made constantly. The future of 3D empowered by AI is incredibly exciting and quite promising. AI will break down the limits to creativity and will minimise human error to ensure the highest quality 3D models within a blink of an eye.
